The combination of energy and sincerity has long been the hallmark of Punchline, an alternative/powerpop band from Pittsburgh, PA that prides itself on constantly trying to craft honest and meaningful songs. In an era of short attention spans, their new album LION (out 3/30 on InVogue Records) is a testament to their commitment to creating a truly memorable musical journey.
Friends Matt Theissen of Relient K (on “Darkest Dark”) and Anthony Raneri of Bayside (on “Sensory Overload”) even drop by for guest vocalist appearances on the largely self-produced LION. In typical Punchline fashion, the styles of the songs vary greatly throughout the record, but the inspiration and passion behind the tunes is the thread that ties them all together and makes them work in perfect harmony.
This six-track NoiseTrade sampler includes the songs “Friend From The Future” and “Darkest Dark” from the forthcoming album LION (out 3/30), “Tell Me How You Sleep” and title-track “Thrilled” from their album Thrilled, “Universe” - which is arguably the band’s most popular song and part of the band’s EP So Nice To Meet You (which peaked at #1 on the iTunes Rock charts upon its release) and ends with “Castaway,” the closing song on Punchline’s album Just Say Yesand a dreamy, relatable ballad that was recorded at Madison, Wisconsin’s famed Smart Studios.
