Former teen heartthrob, now seasoned actor, Zac Efron recently won us over with
the announcement that he has been eating plant-based. And just when we thought we couldn’t adore the High School Musical star any more, he shares that he has just adopted a dog who was set to be euthanized!Efron took to Instagram to share a sweet photo with the newly-adopted pup, adding the hashtag #adoptdontshop.
The actor also shared an Instagram video of Maca and himself practicing some training techniques. Way to go, Maca!
Maca, who was previously named Tilly, was rescued from euthanasia by Bark n’ Bitches Dog Boutique, and Efron applied to be her foster dad before officially adopting her. Too sweet!
In their own update about the recent adoption, Barks n’ Bitches explains the situation Maca faced before her brush with stardom: “Tilly now MACA was being led to the kill room when we stepped in and said we would take her. She was turned around and brought to us! This guy named Zac Efron came in (we hear he is an actor, but we think he actually waits tables) came in and fell in love. He went through our application process and fostered MACA and just could not give her back. So MACA now lives with Zac! This is her happily ever after! Happy life MACA! Happy Life.” How amazing is that!
With 34.5 million followers on Instagram alone, Efron is an influence on society, particularly with the younger generations. Sharing positive messages like these about the value of adoption surely has an impact on his fans, and we hope he has inspired many to mirror his kind actions. Thank you, Zac, for choosing compassion over cruelty!
As this sweet story shows, fostering and adoption truly save lives. Fostering not only provides abandoned animals with a safe and comforting home environment while waiting for their forever home, but, as Zac and Maca have shown, it is also a great way to determine whether or not an animal is a good fit with your lifestyle and personality before making the commitment to adopt.
